About this work

Description

In the foreground, one monkey is being shaved, another is having its hair cut; to the right of the latter, a monkey holds up a mirror; behind him stoops a monkey on crutches. Two small monkeys play in front of them. In the middle of the picture, a group of monkeys are dragging another towards a chair, on which sits presently a monkey undergoing treatment. To the right, a monkey prepares its tools. At the top of the picture a female monkey prepares something in a pot above a furnace. All the patients are bareheaded, while the barber-surgeons wear hats
