About this work

Also known as

Also known as: Arbor augustiniana

Description

The ensemble of twelve prints forms a whole representing the saints and the blessed members of the Augustinian Order, and representatives of the other Orders, Confraternities and Chivalric Orders which follow the Rule of Saint Augustine. It may have been created, as Stivani suggests, to enable the diffusion of the image of the Order to all the more important Augustinian convents. An example of such diffusion is a pair of large paintings from the Convento de São João Novo in Porto, in which Gatti's designs are adapted to a new context (Pontes Santos, op. cit.)
