Description

Volume of household information, including farm management and gardening, all written in the same hand, except for a few very miscellaneous recipes in another hand on pp 151-153. Original pagination. There are cooking, medical, cosmetic and household recipes, and instructions for brewing beer and making cordials and wines. Besides the general medical recipes there are separate sections on rheumatism, gout, 'Sciatick', 'the gravel' and scurvy. There are numerous recipes for inks, including coloured, secret and 'sympathetic' inks, and sealing wax, also a number of recipes for varnishes, cements and glues for domestic use, including 'to make artificial coral for a grotto', and a section on making other artificial stones. A section on 'Curiosities' includes the 'Secret of Fire-Eating'.
