Physical description

1 volume 84 [85] ff. + 1 l. + 28 [30] bl. ll. 4to. 23 x 16 1/2 cm. Original half stamped pigskin binding over wooden boards: clasp wanting. The last leaf of the third work has been cut out, and 2 of the blank leaves. Margins slightly cropped in binding. Large ornamental capital at the beginning of each work in blue and red with floreated marginal decorations: other initials in alternate blue and red: headings and paragraph marks in red. A foliation in pencil has been added. Written in double column of 47, 48 lines to a column: ff. 64-80r are by a different hand, 43 lines to a column. There are some added marginal receipts by the same hand as that of the main text, in some cases mentioning remedies given by the writer himself. On fol. 5 'In colica dedi frawnhofferin [?] ...'; fol. 18 'Pulvis comitis wolfgangi de otting'; fol. 48 'Pawngartnerin de wasserburge' (for repressed menstruation).

Biographical note

The MS. is probably of South German origin. The work by Guainerius is a section of his 'Practica', printed at Lyons in 1517.
