Notes

This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
This description was provided by James Gardiner: "A double-exposure of Shaun Glenville, in drag wearing a head garment and white gloves, looking at himself as a smartly dressed man. The Irish comic actor Shaun Glenville (1884-1968) married the singing comic actress Dorothy Ward, and for many years they appeared together in pantomime, with him as dame and her in male drag as Principal Boy. Their gay son, the distinguished actor and theatre director Peter Glenville (1913-1996) once remarked "It's no wonder I'm not 'normal' , I grew up constantly seeing my father in a frock and my mother in trousers" (Douglas Byng in interview with James Gardiner, 1984)."
