About this work

Description

The North West Wing buildings originally dated from the late 1820s. In the mid 1880s extensions were made to the Ladies’ accommodation in the North West Wing to make an extra sitting room and recreational and reading room. Part of the North West Wing (the part shown with the large bay window) was demolished c 1896-7 for the construction of the first Nurses’ Home. The photographs all show the exterior of the North West Wing before this demolition.
